GKS Scholarship 2024 USA Eligibility

GKS Scholarship 2024 USA Eligibility:

  • Nationality: Applicants and their parents must not hold Korean Citizenship.
  • Age: Applicants must be under 40 years old (born after September 1, 1984).
  • Degree Requirements: Applicants must have or expect to have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree by February 29, 2024.
  • Grades: Applicants must have an overall grade point average (CGPA) equivalent to or higher than any ONE of the following:
    • 2.64 on a 4.0 scale
    • 2.80 on a 4.3 scale
    • 2.91 on a 4.5 scale
    • 3.23 on a 5.0 scale
    • Score percentile (80% or above)
  • Health: Applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically, to study in Korea for the full duration of the program.

  • Study Plan (Form 3)
  • Research Proposal (Form 4) – Only required for Research Program applicant
  • One letter of Recommendation (Form 5)
  • Letter of Invitation (Form 6) – Issued by the research program university
  • GKS Applicant Agreement (Form 7)
  • Personal Medical Assessment (Form 8)
  • Consent to Collect and Use Personal Information (Form 9)
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Diploma or Certificate of Degree or graduation certificate
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree Transcript
  • Applicant’s Proof of Citizenship
  • Parents’ Proof of Citizenship

Applicants should refer to the attached application guidelines for other required documents.


All certificates can be submitted without Apostille.

However, successful candidates will need to obtain and present Apostille Certificates after the interview results are declared by the Embassy of the United States on March 18th.

Applicants must submit 1 set of original application documents and 3 sets of photocopies, identical to the original set.

Applicants in the USA should submit the required application documents to the Korean Education Center or Korean Consulate General while referring to the contact information provided.

(Current students refer to the states according to enrolled college/university, and others to the states of residence.)

GKS Scholarship Graduate Benefits

Here’s what the GKS Scholarship 2024 Graduate Program offers:

  • Airfare: Economy class flight ticket (actual expense)
  • Free Tuition: NIIED: up to 5 million KRW
  • University: covers amount exceeding 5 million KRW, plus Admission fee
  • Korean Language Training Fee: 5.2 million KRW (for four quarters)

Study Incentive:

  • Korean language program: 14,100,000 KRW per year
  • Graduate Degree program: 15,700,000 KRW per year
  • Research Program: 19,800,000 KRW per year 


The 2024 GKS Scholarship is highly esteemed globally. It offers more than just airfare and tuition coverage. 

Recipients also get a generous stipend, free Korean language training, a degree completion grant, a thesis printing fee, and comprehensive medical insurance.

GKS Scholars who start with TOPIK level 5 or 6 and don’t need the Korean language program will get Korean Proficiency Grants automatically.

However, this doesn’t apply to GKS scholars in the Global Network program, Research program, and Japanese applicants.
